“Siemens Healthineers continues to position itself as a leading company for providing vocational training. That’s why we’re investing in up-to-date training facilities and expanding our capacity. It’s a clear commitment to leadership in innovation and to Erlangen as a business location,” says André Heinz, head of Human Resources at Siemens Healthineers.
“Our training center is a major opportunity to keep developing the Siemens Healthineers area in northern Erlangen. We’re being very thoughtful in designing the transitions from public space to semi-public space and closed company space, and we want to offer the people of Erlangen and Siemens Healthineers a much better quality of time spent along the street on the Allee am Röthelheimpark and in the lanes and interior courtyards of our area. We’re investing in good architecture so the buildings will be a highlight, and we’re working closely with Erlangen’s city construction department and architectural advisory board. Together we want to create a space for working and living that’s just fun to be in,” adds Heinz Mayer, head of Real Estate at Siemens Healthineers.
Siemens Healthineers is planning on building another training center in Erlangen to add more room where it can train its own service employees and provide vocational training for young people. The company plans to invest some EUR 58 million here over the next three years. The building will be connected on the east side to the existing Siemens Healthineers training center. Once all permits have been obtained, construction on the roughly 2,600-square-meter site could start early in 2020.
The new Erlangen training center will be used for both the company’s vocational training program and more advanced training for service employees. Siemens Healthineers also intends the additional building to be an innovative learning site where new content for vocational training, such as the basics of digitalization, 3-D printing and robotics, can be taught using the appropriate equipment. Classrooms will be outfitted to the latest digital standards for the purpose, and will also make it possible to offer more courses over the Internet than before. Service employees will be able to learn maintenance and repair on the latest medical equipment; technical staff will train in the proper operation of equipment and software. Siemens Healthineers has been investing for decades in training its internal service employees at all levels in how to assist and support customers in technical matters. Here digitalization will call for innovative new training methods, technologies and equipment so the company can keep offering customers service of the highest quality. The new building will provide a wide variety of options for innovative training methods, such as virtual reality trainings, virtual instructor-led trainings, and much more.
The vocational training organization at Siemens Healthineers was spun off from Siemens AG early in 2018 and set up as a separate program. About 130 young people will begin their vocational training or a dual-track course of studies at Siemens Healthineers in September 2019. Around 30 percent of them are women. At roughly 80 percent, the emphasis will be on technical and IT professions. About 20 percent of the vocational training slots will be filled with students in dual-track programs with university-level institutions. Vocational training will conclude with a diploma from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce; the dual-track students will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree.
