John D. Halamka on Expanding precision medicine

How will precision medicine be experienced and practiced in the future? At the Siemens Healthineers Executive Summit 2019, Prof. John D. Halamka, MD, shared his unique first-hand insights on how data-driven approaches and the internet of medical things can contribute to a 360° understanding of patients and the impact this can have on patients, patient engagement and on the way medicine will be experienced and practiced in the future.

Watch his full talk.

John Halamka claims, in the future, 10 years from now, clinicians will not be paid for heads in beds, but for the wellness of the patients they oversee. With different kinds of data sources a clinician will have, it will be necessary to build a platform that connects multiple devices, apps and services to it to bring patients back to wellness in their homes.

Whereas the health system will be the data aggregator, analyzer and the service provider. Patients won't have to visit that location to get the treatment they need. Thinking about precision medicine - we will think about what is the patients' genome, what is their medical record, but also what is their personal preference? What is their lifestyle and what is the desired outcome? A data-driven approach in precision medicine will contribute to a different understanding and the right treatment at the right time for every patient.
