NEBOSH NGC in Occupational Health and Safety

Siemens Healthineers - Sudbury Employee Stories - Richard Hindes

An apprentices' dedication to personal development for the future success of Siemens Healthineers Sudbury, against the challenges of returning to study, a work balance and additional COVID-19 demands.

My name is Richard Hindes, and I am going to be discussing my experience working as an Apprentice, while studying for a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and managing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic...

Back in late 2019, in addition to my current studies, I began building my EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) knowledge by starting the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Bear in mind, I haven’t done any formal education since I left school 23 years ago, so getting back into the swing of formal study, revision and exams was a challenge to say the least!

It certainly hasn’t been straight forward – balancing the requirements of my apprenticeship, additional study for the NEBOSH and with COVID-19, came the added workloads and responsibilities which I am sure we are all familiar with to one degree or another.

Having finally qualified, I can say it was worth it. This developed me as an individual, better equipped me to support my team and provided me with more development opportunities. My hope is that once my apprenticeship is complete, I will be able to help further support Sudbury, supporting the good behaviours I see demonstrated daily, whilst simultaneously working with people to further improve the Safety culture here at Sudbury.
