This is why we give our best every day, to improve the lives of patients and their families.

With our comprehensive portfolio – from in-vitro diagnostics and best-in-class imaging to therapy and follow-up care – we address the complete care continuum for many of the world’s most threatening diseases.

More about our products and services

Our innovation leadership

We have unique strengths in patient twinning, precision therapy as well as digital, data, and AI that set us apart and enable us to actively shape the transformation of healthcare:

We will continue to build on these strengths to help overcome the world’s most threatening diseases: cancer, cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases, improving the quality of outcomes, and enabling access to care.

Around three billion people worldwide don’t have access to care. Many patients still suffer from diseases, which could already be treated successfully, simply because means of diagnoses and therapies are not yet affordable or accessible to them. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality and individualized care.
Our purpose
The reality is healthcare systems worldwide are facing a multitude of challenges: from limited funding, to shortage of qualified staff, to geographical barriers and limitation in local infrastructure, combined with aging population, the raising burden of chronic diseases, and increasing frequency of emergency disruptions accelerated by climate change.
Even the most advanced technology is only as good as the number of people who have access to it. That's why innovation must be followed by scalability. This means solutions that can be tailored to the needs of our customers, the healthcare providers, and the local infrastructures, in which they are integrated.

What all healthcare systems have in common is their demand for high-value care – providing better outcomes with fewer resources. And while medtech is a global business, healthcare is inherently local.

We are currently present in more than 70 countries around the globe, making sure we are close to our customers. Our products, solutions, and services are customized to meet local market needs, benefiting from an unmatched global expertise.

World map

Built on a history of innovation we are a global player with a strong engineering heritage. Just one year after X-rays were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895, we created our company’s first medical X-ray device.

Our innovation legacy

Our archives still hold a letter from Roentgen dating back to 1896 praising the quality of tubes provided by Siemens.

“Your tubes are really very good,” was the simple but significant praise penned on what is probably the most pleasing postcard in the company’s history.

We've been pushing the boundaries in medical technology for more than 125 years. Combined with the pioneering history of Varian our breakthroughs now span imaging, diagnostics, and cancer therapy. Here's a selection of them:
Today, our engineers and researchers worldwide continue to build upon our legacy of innovation. Backed by an annual research and development investment of €1.5 billion and about 23,000 technical intellectual property rights, including more than 14,000 granted patents, we constantly bring breakthrough innovations to market – for the benefit of patients, medical professionals, and society.

Our culture

We are a team of 66,000 highly dedicated employees pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare to help improve people’s lives around the world.
To unleash the power and potential of every single one of us, we’re building a more inclusive culture. Guided by our values, we embrace diversity in all its forms, at every level of our company.

An inclusive culture is a pre-requisite if we aspire to serve the eight billion people on our planet. As a diverse organization, we can better relate to the people – whether customers or patients – their communities and the specific challenges they face. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are therefore important aspects of our wider responsibilities.

Contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is a priority of our business strategy and is continuously enabled by our unique culture. We are a member of the UN Global Compact, our emissions reduction targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Our sustainability strategy is built on three pillars. We commit to improving healthcare access for all, limiting our environmental impact as we pioneer breakthroughs, and engaging our diverse Healthineers to achieve this impact on a global scale. We pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably.

It's a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
