Set new standards in advanced musculoskeletal and trauma imaging

Real3D offers three-dimensional information on the scanned body region in sagittal, coronal, and axial views as well as a rendered bone volume for the requirements of a musculoskeletal or trauma department.

Real3D uses a flat panel detector for image acquisition. During a scan, tube and detector rotate around the patient and a certain number of projection images are taken. The projection data is then used to calculate a 3D dataset.

Real3D for musculoskeletal imaging focuses on two fields of application: trauma evaluation of upper and lower extremities and weight-bearing imaging of the lower extremities as well as the lumbar spine.

  • For trauma imaging Real3D can add diagnostic value in comparison to 2D X-ray examinations, especially for the assessment of complex anatomies with much superposition of adjacent bony structures such as joints.
  • First publications showed a similar image quality of Real3D for the evaluation of bony structures in extremities compared to Multidetector CT scanners, and a dose-saving potential at the same time.
  • Weight-bearing examinations using Real3D offer new approaches with the potential to enhance diagnosis and improve patient treatment. Establishing weight-bearing 3D imaging in clinical routine is an important research topic for orthopedic imaging.
