The MAGNETOM Vida achieves new levels of 3T performance with an all-new magnet which provides excellent homogeneity and geometric accuracy. It also offers a large Field-of-View (55 x 55 x 50 cm3) and a gradient strength of up to 60/200 mT/m/ms, simultaneously providing an increased SNR in diffusion-weighted imaging. Trendsetting applications like RESOLVE, and StarVIBE, deliver excellent image quality for multiple body regions to support precise radiotherapy treatment planning.

BioMatrix Sensors

BioMatrix Sensors utilize respiratory sensors that are embedded directly in the spine coil to acquire and display the patient’s respiration data as soon as the patient lies on the table – even when the RT positioning equipment is in use. The optimal exam strategy can then be selected.

BioMatrix Tuners

BioMatrix Tuners encompass SliceAdjust technology to adapt to challenging anatomical regions-driving robustness and reproducible high-quality imaging for all patients. SliceAdjust provides reliable and distortion-free whole-body DWI scans. The result: no broken spine artifacts for excellent correlation with anatomical scans.

BioMatrix Interfaces

BioMatrix Interfaces simplify how the user interacts with the scanner. With one-touch, using the Select&GO screen and the underlying BioMatrix Body Model, positioning can be performed 30%1 faster and delays due to incorrect positioning can be avoided. Users simply select the body region to be scanned for reliable patient positioning-without the need for detailed anatomical knowledge or extensive experience with MRI positioning.

The new BioMatrix dockable table makes patient preparation and transportation easy for any user and any patient. You can now prepare your patient directly on the BioMatrix dockable table in a separate room, freeing up the MR room for other MRI scans. Once the patient preparation is complete, the BioMatrix dockable table with eDrive support provides motorized assistance so that even the heaviest patient can be moved effortlessly to and from the scanner.

To fully utilize MR imaging capabilities for RT treatment planning, leading RT vendors (Qfix, CIVCO, and Orfit) provide positioning equipment that is compatible with all MAGNETOM RT Pro edition scanners. All RT positioning equipment is tailored to the 70-cm, open bore design to support smooth workflows and easy patient preparation for optimal accuracy in radiation therapy. The LAP DORADOnova MR3T laser bridge is MRI compatible and supports a precise patient-marking process.

Maximize RT imaging intelligence with the syngo.via RT Image Suite2

The practical integration of acquired MRI data into existing RT workflows is often compromised by limited capabilities of RT planning software solutions to visualize non-axial image data. This missing link is closed with the syngo.via RT Image Suite, a dedicated imaging-for-RT software solution that enables multi-modality image viewing, registration, and contouring. Additional syngo.via software packages support tumor quantification and treatment response assessment to help optimize therapy to meet individual needs and improve outcomes.

Clinical Use

MRI utilization in radiation therapy treatment planning has grown steadily between 2006 and 2017: from 6% to 25%3. Whether for primary brain tumors or intracranial metastases, MRI provides vital imaging information to support treatment planning of conventional and stereotactic radiotherapy. With the RT Dot Engine, we provide dedicated RT protocols for brain and head/neck exams, enabling visualization for physicians to assess the extent of the lesion and potential side effects, such as edema and necrosis. The protocols are optimized for imaging in the treatment position with flexible Tim 4G coils that enable reliable simulation of the treatment situation. New ultra-high-density coils like the UltraFlex 18 improve SNR and allow for high spatial resolution in shorter exam times.

When treating head/neck tumors, MRI can provide valuable information about the soft tissue structures. However, in this region, image quality and spatial integrity of the acquired data often is compromised by spatial distortions, motion, and susceptibility effects. The new BioMatrix platform, with unique techniques like SliceAdjust, helps achieve images of high spatial integrity and high signal homogeneity for RT planning purposes.

In radiation therapy of the prostate, the volume of the organ is often overestimated when using CT only4. MRI delivers excellent soft tissue contrast and can offer a more precise delineation of the prostate and organs at risk. With multi-parametric MRI (diffusion-weighted imaging and spectroscopy), you can even see metabolically active regions of a tumor that could help you identify regions for dose escalation and enable tailored treatment planning to drive better therapeutic outcomes5.

With RESOLVE, diffusion-weighted imaging has been performed with significantly better lesion conspicuity and image quality6, and typical distortions were reduced by a factor of three7. It is the DWI sequence of choice for accurate target delineation8*.

 

For cervical cancers treated with brachytherapy, the EMBRACE study has shown that the ability of MRI to visualize and delineate soft tissue supports improved target coverage and may spare normal tissue9. With fast isotropic 3D sequences, like SPACE or VIBE, along with 3D distortion correction, you can acquire excellent planning data for the therapy process. Various contrasts for reliable 3D planning in brachytherapy (e.g., T1, T2, and PD) are available.
