Junior Orsi Academy Shaping the future of Healthcare

Junior Orsi, an integral part of the Orsi Academy, is on a mission to foster innovation, research, and education in the medical field. Their vision is to unite students from diverse educational backgrounds who harbor a profound fascination for innovation, particularly in the medical field.

On 16 October, Siemens Healthineers was given the opportunity to host a workshop for 30 medical students, unrevealing the fascinating world of interventional cardiology, covering diverse areas such as Coronary Artery Disease, Electrophysiology, and Structural Heart Disease.

The event kicked off with an exciting opportunity for students to master the art of placing a stent in a coronary artery, guided by a state-of-the-art simulator from MENTICE. They delved into the materials involved, learned how X-rays play a pivotal role in these procedures, and acquired the skills to expertly position and inflate a stent.

Subsequently, the students were invited to step into the world of planning a heart valve intervention, meticulously analyzing CT images. They discovered the intricacies of processing CT data for precise valve measurements and gained invaluable insights into the individualized nature of aortic valve placement.

As the third activity of the evening, students embarked on an augmented reality adventure using the innovative HoloLens from Microsoft. Through the captivating cinematic rendering solution, they were transported into the depths of human anatomy, gaining a profound understanding of this complex subject.
