COVID-19 response ꟷ Clinical

Molecular Diagnostic
As society continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a critical public health need to get ahead of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus with a fast and simple test for all. The CLINITEST Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Test1 is a point-of-care cassette test that does not require central laboratory analyzers and hence eliminates transport delays and associated costs. It delivers results in 15 minutes.
Molecular Diagnostic

Amplifying the viral RNA , real-time PCR testing specifically identifies the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The robust, highly sensitive molecular test increases the window of detection of an acute infection.2 The FTD SARS-CoV-2 Assay3 uses real-time PCR to detect viral RNA from respiratory samples. The assay has a dual-target design that probes two highly conserved regions on the SARS-CoV-2 genome. It is a robust assay designed for high sensitivity, specificity and inclusivity. It uses the same assay setup protocol and thermal-cycling profile as all FTD respiratory disease kits from Siemens Healthineers.

Laboratory Testing Tubes

Fast, accurate detection and monitoring of health issues and comorbidities that may arise as part of COVID-19 disease are critical. Our comprehensive portfolio of systems and extensive menu in immunoassay, chemistry, hematology, hemostasis, molecular, and urinalysis, in conjunction with automation, informatics, and services, can help support the essential role of laboratory diagnostics.

We also offer labs a new high-throughput SARS-CoV-2 Antigen assay, now available on the Atellica® IM and ADVIA Centaur® XP/XPT Systems. Improve your confidence in SARS-CoV-2 mass screening with a high-throughput, central lab-based antigen assay that can quickly provide accurate results in at-risk individuals, including patients who are asymptomatic or in the early stage of the disease.

Siemens Healthineers Atellica Solution & Dimension EXL200

The compact, integrated chemistry and immunoassay testing system Dimension® EXL 200 provides a simple user interface to rapidly mobilize testing with quick turnaround times for certain critical tests – also in pop-up labs and triage locations. A disposable, sealed cuvette design may help reduce contact with potentially infectious sample mixtures and aerosols.

Hemostasis and COVID-19

While it’s not unusual for infections to raise the risk of clotting, COVID-19 is associated with an unprecedented range of clotting-related disorders in COVID-19 patients. Coagulation testing plays an important role in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of coagulation abnormalities in these patients. Siemens Healthineers is supporting labs to best perform coagulation testing. Our efforts include increased production of vital coagulation assays, and compiled knowledge on current coagulation testing and monitoring recommendations.

Blood gas testing for critical patients

The RAPIDPoint® 500e Blood Gas System and epoc® Blood Analysis System are essential analyzers supporting COVID-19 response efforts, where blood gas testing plays a critical role in managing infected patients and monitoring their respiratory distress. The analyzers integrate seamlessly into hospital networks with the Point of Care Ecosystem™, which offers remote management of operators and devices.

urinalysis

Urinalysis testing enables clinicians to monitor patients’ renal function, which can be impacted by COVID-19. The presence of protein would prompt additional testing, as various types of proteins can indicate different disease states or conditions. Urinalysis reagent strips screen for albumin and calculate an albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR). ACR normalizes urine concentration to more accurately detect adverse traces of albumin in urine, which can indicate potential kidney damage. Siemens Healthineers offers customized solutions for a wide range of care settings, including urinalysis reagent strips.

SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing

The OnSite COVID-19 IgM/IgG Rapid Test is intended for qualitative detection and differentiation of IgG and IgM antibodies in human serum, plasma or whole blood within 15 minutes. This test is easy-to-use, with basic equipment needs – finger prick specimen for example allows testing at point of care, saving crucial time.
It is one of the top-performing antibody tests available for SARS-CoV-2 at the point of care.5

Antibody testing

Rapid and accurate antibody testing on a large scale is vital to address the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The SARS-CoV-2 Total Assay6 detects both IgM and longer-lasting IgG antibodies with high sensitivity for recent and prior infection and can be used effectively for broad population testing.
The SARS-CoV-2 IgG AntibodyTest7, has been proven to quantitatively measure the amount of neutralizing antibodies to determine the magnitude of an immune response after infection. Reliable antibody tests are also a valuable tool to measure immune response following vaccination.

Computed Tomography (CT) images used in evaluation of infectious disease

High resolution chest CT images help assess the severity of the lung involvement in COVID-19 patients, especially those with severe symptoms. This includes evaluation of the progression and remission of the disease.*8 Scanners of the SOMATOM go. platform provide high resolution lung imaging and are recommended for fast delivery requests in areas where COVID-19 is prevalent. The innovative mobile CT workflow of SOMATOM go. platform scanners permits technologists to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 m (5 ft) from potentially infected patients. These scanners can also be installed in temporary units to provide access in high-demand or in isolated areas. Furthermore, many of our CT simulators usually being used for radiation treatment planning, can be used to support the diagnosis of COVID-19 based pneumonia.
