PETNET Solutions Inc., a Siemens Healthineers company and the leading manufacturer of radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in the United States, has opened a new radiopharmacy in the city of Dania Beach near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 10,995 square foot facility, known as PETNET South Florida and located at 5553 Anglers Ave., replaces PETNET’s 3,557 square foot site at 1300 W. McNab Rd. in Fort Lauderdale. PETNET South Florida is the largest of the company’s 43 U.S. radiopharmacies, in addition to possessing the greatest production capacity of any PETNET facility.

One of three PETNET Solutions radiopharmacies in Florida, PETNET South Florida was constructed with two new, high-capacity cyclotrons and equipped with redundant production and quality control equipment for increased reliability. Radiopharmaceuticals produced at the site include oncology agents for PET imaging of many cancers, including breast and prostate cancer, as well as neurology agents. PETNET South Florida’s increased production capacity will provide South Florida customers with access to three additional radiopharmaceutical products in addition to PETNET’s traditional portfolio. When injected, positron-emitting PET radiopharmaceuticals distribute throughout the tissues of a patient’s body and bond to targeted physiological processes that may be imaged via a PET/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner.

“The opening of PETNET South Florida not only represents our continued investment in our network of radiopharmacies from a quality control and regulatory standpoint, but it also expands access to additional novel radiopharmaceuticals that can provide more information to physicians, with the potential for improved clinical outcomes for patients,” said Barry Scott, Head of PETNET Solutions Inc.

PETNET South Florida is one of 15 capital improvement projects for Siemens Healthineers in the U.S. These projects are designed to expand manufacturing and R&D capabilities across the company’s diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and advanced therapies portfolios.
