Siemens Healthineers celebrates Algonquin College’s 50 years of Nursing excellence with donation to support Simulation-Based Education
Siemens Healthineers proudly joined Algonquin College in celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Nursing program by donating advanced point‑of‑care diagnostic equipment to enhance the College’s simulation‑based learning environments. The partnership was formally launched on January 29, 2026, when representatives from Siemens Healthineers visited Algonquin College’s Ottawa campus to mark the milestone and reaffirm the organization's commitment to supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Siemens Healthineers donated several units of the epoc® Blood Analysis System—including the epoc Reader and epoc NXS Host, advanced handheld devices manufactured locally in Ottawa and distributed globally. These systems provide rapid, comprehensive blood analysis at the patient’s side, delivering critical test results in under one minute.
The donated equipment has been integrated into Algonquin College’s simulation laboratories, where nursing and allied health learners gain hands‑on experience in realistic clinical scenarios. These labs enable learners to practice bedside diagnostics, such as blood testing and patient monitoring.
“Siemens Healthineers was honoured to attend the celebration of 50 years of Nursing at Algonquin College, and we are proud to support hands‑on education for future nurses with our technology,” said Jens Merkel, Finance Director at Siemens Healthineers’ Point of Care Ottawa. “The best possible outcomes for patients begin with confident and well‑prepared clinicians. By putting our advanced diagnostic tools in the hands of learners, we’re ensuring they are ready to make informed clinical decisions from day one.”
Erin Stitt‑Cavanagh, Dean of Algonquin College’s School of Health Studies, highlighted the significance of the partnership, noting its alignment with the College’s recent launch of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours) program at both the Ottawa and Pembroke campuses. “Last November, the College reached a defining milestone when we began accepting applications to the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours) at both the Ottawa and Pembroke campuses,” she said. “With the support of industry partners like Siemens Healthineers, we can build on the half century of nursing excellence we’re known for and continue to enhance the educational experience we offer our learners.”
Algonquin College continues to dedicate resources to create skilled nursing graduates and this collaboration with Siemens Healthineers reinforces the shared commitment to innovative, high‑quality clinical education and enhanced patient outcomes.
