Standardize Care and Gain Efficiencies in Oncology Care

Driving consistency in oncology at a known cost across your integrated delivery network (IDN) can be fundamental to the well-being of your patients and your organization. To help, Siemens is pioneering significant technological advances that can cost-effectively enable:

  • Standardization of disease-specific protocols based on clinical indications that may provide better efficiency.
  • A more personalized radiation therapy plan based on patients’ individual anatomies and physiology of disease.
  • The harmonization of reading oncology studies across your institution to assess treatment efficacy.

The variability of skills and experience across technologists and their ability to manage complex therapy protocols can lead to inconsistencies. Simplifying PET/CT imaging can enable better consistency and a higher level of efficiency across the service line. Biograph mCT Flow™ with its unique FlowMotion™ technology supports overall efficiency gains and departmental standardization.

  • Personalize and standardize image acquisition with ease with one-click fast planning—or CT-like planning—in daily clinical workflow.
  • Reduce set-up of exam times across your network and ensure standardization of exams with simple exam set up and organ-based protocols.
  • Ensure high quality and reproducibility of exams with automated daily system calibration and normalization to ensure daily accuracy and reproducibility of standard uptake values (SUVs).

With FlowMotion examinations, parameters such as speed, image resolution and motion management can be easily adjusted to the precise dimensions of organs and routinely incorporated into a single scan to personalize the exam for each patient with ease.

  • Perform precise organ imaging in a single scan with protocols based on anatomies and physiology of disease.
  • Diagnostic PET/CT and radiation therapy planning studies can be conducted during the same exam to improve operational efficiency and increase scheduling flexibility, while removing the need for patients to schedule an additional appointment at a later time.

In networks with different PET scanners, reading physicians frequently receive prior patient exams that were acquired with different scanners. This can make it difficult to assess response to therapy when comparing quantitative data (standard uptake value (SUV)). If quantification results are not normalized, conclusions about therapy progress or tumor size changes will differ and can lead to ineffective therapies. In order to reduce quantitative variability across scanners, Siemens developed EQ·PET to harmonize clinical reading results regardless of scanner or reconstruction protocols.

  • EQ•PET bridges platforms and protocols to harmonizes SUVs across patient scans regardless of scanner make or model.
  • Standardizes reading to accurately compare SUV values in therapy decisions to support clinicians to assess therapy response.
  • Can reduce the need for patients to be imaged on the same system each time, which provides scheduling flexibility for follow-up exams.
