Siemens unveiled the world's first Dual Source CT scanner, the Somatom Definition. The device incorporated two X-ray tubes and two detectors, making it possible to capture images faster than ever before - with a reduction in radiation dose of up to 50 percent compared with previous systems. Cardiac CT became routine and the path was clear for dual energy imaging, which can distinguish between tissue, bone, and implants in the body.
