HIV

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that infects cells of the human immune system, destroying or impairing their function. HIV is a truly global epidemic, with 34 million people living with HIV and 2.5 million new infections each year1.

Early identification of HIV-positive individuals, viral load monitoring and resistance testing may improve patient outcomes and reduce disease transmission. Laboratory tests are key at every stage of the HIV care continuum, and they provide clinicians with the tools that allow them to manage patients more effectively.
