Improving the patient experience
Each year more than 2 million women undergo breast cancer screening in the UK1. Whilst the number of women invited has increased, reports show that the uptake by women aged 50-70 has fallen in recent years2. This could be for a number of understandable reasons including: fear of the process being painful, concern at the risk of exposure to ionising radiation, or anxiety about missed diagnoses and false positives. That almost one million women have missed screening appointments due to the COVID-19 pandemic should also be of serious concern3.
It's imperative that screening is as effective and comfortable as possible to gain a patient's trust in order to ensure screening appointments are maintained. Patient focus is a core remit of Siemens Healthineers and it is put at the forefront of the technology we produce.
