Siemens Healthineers is opening a new office in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Oncology Partnership (MDOP), a 10-year, CAD $175 million collaboration with Nova Scotia Health aimed at strengthening cancer care across the province.
Siemens Healthineers has committed to creating at least 60 full-time jobs in Halifax and contributing approximately CAD $50 million in payroll and rent over 10 years. The office will also provide a foundation for joint innovation projects, including the development and testing of digital-imaging concepts and other technology initiatives in collaboration with Nova Scotia Health.
“Every Nova Scotian knows someone battling cancer. Although, we’ve come a long way with advancements in medicine, there’s more work to do. Our job is to strengthen cancer care here in the province,” said Premier Tim Houston. “This partnership ensures that patients in our province have access to leading technologies and expertise, while also creating new healthcare opportunities and building capacity. It reflects our commitment to improving healthcare today and for years to come.”
Arthur Kaindl, head of Varian at Siemens Healthineers, added: “Our collaboration with Nova Scotia Health reflects our deep commitment to elevating cancer care, not only for patients and clinicians across the province, but for communities around the world. By working together here in Halifax, we are accelerating access to advanced technologies and strengthening cancer services in ways that have the potential to deliver lasting improvements for patients everywhere.”
The MDOP, announced in January 2024, includes the rollout of advanced radiotherapy systems with integrated imaging, a unified oncology data network, and professional services to support clinical and operational transformation. Establishing a permanent presence in Halifax marks an important step in delivering on this agreement and supporting the province’s long-term healthcare goals.
