Thomas Flohr

Thomas Flohr studied physics at Friedrich Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany. After receiving his PhD in 1989, he joined Siemens Healthcare. He was instrumental in the development of multi-detector row computed tomography (CT), cardiac CT and dual source CT. Currently, his focus is on the development and clinical introduction of photon counting CT. Thomas Flohr was head of CT physics and application predevelopment at Siemens Healthcare until 2022 and is now Senior Principal Key Expert at Siemens Healthcare and an adjunct professor of medical physics at Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, Germany. Thomas Flohr was twice a finalist for the "Innovation Award of the German Federal President": in 2002 for his work on cardiac CT and in 2021 for the introduction of photon-counting CT. In 2021, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Thomas Flohr holds more than 100 patents and is author and co-author of more than 230 peer-reviewed publications.
