Siemens Healthineers Indonesia dives into the future of nuclear medicine development with two of Indonesia’s national referral hospitals.

Together, we uncover insights in the status of Nuclear Medicine in Indonesia and identified opportunities to build capacity in theranostics and Nuclear Medicine to support achieving Comprehensive Cancer Care for Indonesia.

Following the MoU Signing with MOH of Indonesia to support the establishment of Theranostics’ Center of Excellence in Indonesia, Siemens Healthineers collaborating with RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin (RSHS) and Rumah Sakit Kanker Dharmais hosted two Theranostics Workshops to provide training sessions on nuclear medicine for healthcare professionals, particularly nuclear medicine professionals, doctors, medical physicists, radiographers, radiochemists, radio pharmacist, and nurse. The 1st Theranostics Workshop Event was held in October 2023 at the Nuclear Medicine Department of RSHS with participants also from Dharmais Hospital. This was followed by the 2nd in-depth sessions at the respective hospitals, conducted in November 2023.

Both workshops received enthusiastic and active participation from a total of more than 140 attendees, contributing to a dynamic and engaging learning environment. During The 1st Theranostics Workshop, Dr. Partha Ghosh, MD., Global Clinical Advisor of Siemens Healthineers, facilitated a discussion on Theranostics and radionuclide therapy. This session also fostered a critical discussion on contemporary challenges of nuclear medicine, including its limited logistics, facilities, and human resource competencies that requires further consideration and identified opportunities to address these.

Both hospitals and Siemens Healthineers Indonesia then sought to accommodate those topics in the next workshop session. Lady Tatiana Sawoszczyk, Siemens Healthineers Global Theranostics Expert, provided insights on international theranostics practices.  The discussions focused on adherence to regulatory standards, readiness of hospital infrastructures, optimal designated workflow, and the availability of a well-trained workforce.

Ferdinand Lipps, Ph.D., Head of Molecular Imaging for ASEAN at Siemens Healthineeers: “The outcomes of the workshops are encouraging, and I am confident they will help Dharmais and RSHS to continue to build on their strong expertise to develop themselves as Center of Excellence for Theranostics.”

In conclusion, the Theranostics Workshops established a strong basis for the long-term collaboration between the national referral hospitals, Dharmais, RSHS, and Siemens Healthineers Indonesia, with the joint goal to build capacity for Theranostics and Nuclear Medicine and to establish Comprehensive Cancer Care for Indonesia.
