CT-guided interventions

for accuracy and efficiency

By 2020, the number of people older than 60 is expected to surpass the number of children younger than five years of age1. The aging population poses the health system with challenges, particularly regarding cancer diagnosis (e.g. biopsies) and treatment (e.g ablations) as well in orthopedic diseases, such as chronic back pain or fractured vertebras caused by osteoporosis. Minimally invasive image guidance enables cost-effective procedures2 for the diagnosis and treatment of suspicious lesions. Computed tomography is one of the imaging modalities most often used when cross-sectional image guidance is required in percutaneous interventional procedures3. Dedicated technology that can simplify workflows and maximize safety will help you to optimally handle these procedures and patients.

Features & Benefits

CT-guided interventions are critical. Speed and a streamlined workflow matter during these minimally invasive procedures.

CT-guided interventions Adaptive 3D Interventions Suite

The Adaptive 3D Intervention Suite with the integrated wired or wireless i-control directly at the tableside allows you to interact with the software and to control all relevant scan parameters during CT-guided procedures designed for increased process efficiency. The Adaptive 3D Intervention Suite provides a fast and efficient 3D-guided workflow during the intervention and can potentially reduce overall procedure time. Full navigation in the three-dimensional space of the patient together with real-time fluoroscopic image guidance allows for fast and accurate instrument positioning in the most complex anatomies, even at difficult oblique angles or in moving organs.

The SOMATOM go. platform features Guide&GO, the first tablet-based4 solution for CT-guided interventional procedures. Built on the mobile workflow, it is both familiar and easy to use. You can control the entire intervention with the tablet and remote control. Needle guidance is supported by the highly intuitive image manipulation functions we know from our smartphones, like zoom or pan. A dedicated toolkit for performing accurate measurements and planning a secure needle path is easily accessible via the tablet and supported by a convenient “smartphone-like” zoom-glass functionality.

Dedicated technologies support accuracy and safety to avoid complications when inserting a needle or other instruments, such as ablation instruments.

Tracking of the needle tip helps minimize damage to vital structures and organs and can potentially reduce the overall procedure time. Auto Needle Detection in the Adaptive 3D Intervention detects the needle tip automatically to provide an accurate overview of the current needle and target position to explore secure needle paths you did not even think of before.

Guide&GO – Built on the Mobile Workflow

For precision in your work, Guide&GO offers intuitive touchscreen functions that help you to quickly find the right position for the needle and measure relevant distances with the support of a magnifying glass functionality. Fast toggling between predefined image window settings or between the i-sequence and the spiral planning scan makes it easy to cross-check the anatomy to safely plan the needle path. Laser crosshairs offer additional accuracy and confidence.

Artifacts due to metal implants or to the tool used in the interventional procedure (e.g., RF ablation) often hamper image quality. Special reconstruction algorithms such as iMAR can be applied during CT-guided interventional procedures to reduce artifacts and to improve confidence even in areas adjacent to metal implants.

CT-guided interventions HandCare

Dose matters in CT-guided interventions for both the patient and the operator. HandCARETM enables real-time dose modulation during CT-guided intervention procedures and avoids direct radiation to the clinician’s hand.

CT-guided interventions CT systems 2D procedures

Our CT systems SOMATOM Force, Drive, Edge Plus and Definition Edge are ready to perform 2D CT-guided procedures without additional costs. Along with common scanner technologies, the free-of-charge basic intervention package offers you an entry-level solution for performing 2D in-plane CT-guided interventions. Further advanced intervention packages allow you to expand into additional clinical fields such as tumor treatment.

CT-guided interventions CT systems

With the tablet-based interventional solution of the SOMATOM go. platform you can perform the vast majority of CT-guided intervention types with 2D needle localization without the need for additional hardware. With Guide&GO you benefit from ease of use that results in faster learning curves and shorter training times. Beginners in the field of interventions can just concentrate on the clinical workflow without having to focus on complex system operation.
