Sepsis Alliance and Surviving Sepsis Campaign

All ages are vulnerable to sepsis. Learn more about the medical management of sepsis and how you can get involved through the following organizations:

 

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign, an initiative of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the International Sepsis Forum, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, was developed to improve the management, diagnosis, and treatment of sepsis. In 2002, they established a short-term goal of decreasing the relative mortality of sepsis by 25 percent in 5 years.

Resources available from the campaign include:

  • Resuscitation and sepsis management bundles: evidence-based guidelines for the management of severe sepsis and septic shock
  • Guidelines and instructions for implementing the campaign at medical facilities
  • Information for healthcare professionals
  • Information for the general public, patients, and their families
  • Educational opportunities

The Sepsis Alliance was founded in memory of Erin Flatley by her father Dr. Carl Flatley. Erin died of sepsis at the age of 23, 5 days after an elective surgical procedure. The Sepsis Alliance is dedicated to the early detection, effective management and curing of sepsis. Programs focus on educating healthcare professionals, government representatives, professional philanthropists and the media. Supporting patients, survivors, and families of survivors and those who died of sepsis are at the heart of the effort.
