The angle makes the difference in tomosynthesis of dense breasts – a physicist’s view

Does the angle affect breast structural noise or lesion detectability in digital breast tomosynthesis ? Prof. Wei Zhao, PhD from Stony Brook, New York, USA and her team took a closer look at the physics behind the angle and how it affects the depiction of lesions in dense breast tissue. Instead of just comparing tomosynthesis to digital mammography, they wanted to expand their study and look at the impact the design of a tomosynthesis system can have on the detection of breast cancer.
