Real-time AI is expanding ultrasound's diagnostic and procedural impact

What happens when a medical device stops being just a tool and starts thinking alongside the clinician? In Radiology Today, Sourabh Pagaria, Head of Ultrasound at Siemens Healthineers, outlined his vision for the future of ultrasound technology, which he believes is already taking shape in clinical practice.

AI in ultrasound can automate organ identification across 17 abdominal structures in milliseconds and reduce a standard echocardiography exam by up to 10 minutes.

Liver fat content can also be quantified non-invasively, further expanding ultrasound's diagnostic value. According to Pagaria, advances such as these reflect the rapidly evolving role of AI in ultrasound.

He describes this as AI designed to assist clinicians and support clinical decision-making, helping to reduce user strain, increase reproducibility and provide clinicians with relevant information when they need it.
