A 58-year-old female patient with a 10-year history of migraine, tinnitus and orthostatic headache, was diagnosed of spontaneous intracranial hypotension. CT myelography was performed on a photon-counting CT, NAEOTOM Alpha®, using a UHR scan mode to identify and localize the suspected cerebrospinal fluid-venous fistula prior to a definitive treatment.
A 9-year-old boy, suffering from frequent urination, weak stream and enuresis, was presented to the hospital for a check-up. Ultrasonography and cystoradiography revealed hydronephrosis and hydroureter on the right side, accompanied by multiple stones in the distal ureter. An abdominal contrast CT examination was requested for further evaluation.
A 28-year-old female patient, suffering from a sudden onset of heart palpitation accompanied by atypical chest pain, was admitted to the emergency room. The patient reported no previous episode and her medical history was unremarkable. A chest CT angiography (CTA) was requested to rule out associated anomalies.
Inside an incidental solid renal mass
An 89-year-old male patient, complaining of unspecific abdominal pain and hematuria, came to the hospital for a checkup. Physical examination and laboratory tests suggested a prostatic hyperplasia as the cause of hematuria. An abdominal contrast CT scan was performed on a dual source photon-counting CT, NAEOTOM Alpha®, to rule out any other potential cause.
Anomalous pulmonary venous connection – total or partial?
A 22-month-old girl with a cardiac murmur was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and admitted for surgical repair. A pulmonary CTA was requested for preoperative evaluation.
FOOSH injury with screw fixation of the scaphoid
A 20-year-old male patient with a FOOSH injury underwent a screw fixation of the scaphoid and later, a revision surgery due to non-union of the fracture. A follow-up CT showed unclear bone structure around the screw with the presence of metal artifacts. Further evaluation was performed using a UHR scan mode on a photon-counting CT (NAEOTOM Alpha®).
A 13-year-old female patient, with left elbow complaints for the past 18 months, had a radiograph of the elbow which showed a suspicious osteochondritis dissecans of the capitellum. For further evaluation, an ultra-high resolution scan mode on a photon-counting CT scanner (NAEOTOM Alpha®) was requested.
Diagnostic accuracy of ultra-high resolution coronary CT angiography using photon-counting CT
The NAEOTOM Alpha®, a newly developed dual-source CT scanner with photon-counting detectors (QuantaMax®), has the potential to address some of the challenges of cCTA. It provides energy-resolved CT data without electronic noise at improved spatial resolution.
Scaphoid fracture only seen in CT
A 14-year-old girl presented herself to the emergency department due to a fall onto her outstretched right hand. Radiographs performed revealed only equivocal result. A CT scan was requested for further evaluation, using an ultra-high resolution mode on a photon-counting CT scanner (NAEOTOM Alpha).
Presented by Prof. Edwin Oei from Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, at ECR 2023
A 62-year-old female obese patient, with a history of arterial hypertension and hyperlipidemia, presented to the institutional chest pain unit with typical angina and an extensive cardiovascular risk profile. A coronary CT angiography was performed using a dual source photon-counting detector (PCD) CT (NAEOTOM Alpha®) in ultra-high resolution (UHR) mode.
Photon-counting CT for coronary assessment: real world results in heart transplant patients
Presented by Assoc. Prof. Olivier Manintveld, MD, and Prof. Ricardo Budde, MD, Erasmus Medical Center, at ECR 2023, in a Corporate Symposium “Pushing the boundaries of CT imaging with photon-counting technology”.
A 64-year-old female patient with a history of metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma came to the hospital due to a novel lesion found in the pancreatic head, which partially obstructed the portal vein, raising the concern of either tumor invasion or thrombus formation. A contrast-enhanced CT scan was requested and performed on a photon-counting CT.
