Advancing Healthcare Digitalization: The Journey of S.I.S Can Tho Hospital

Can Tho, Vietnam

|2025-03-24

Established in 2019, with 300 inpatient beds and an outpatient volume of 1,000 to 1,200 patients daily, S.I.S Can Tho Hospital stands as a critical care hub in the heart of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, specializing in stroke and cardiology.

Under Directive No. 07/CT-TTg1 on accelerating the National Digital Transformation Strategy toward 2030, recently issued by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health is directing 100% of hospitals nationwide to implement electronic medical records (EMRs). Additionally, targeted for completion by September 2025, hospitals at all levels—district, provincial, and national— must be interconnected to enable seamless data sharing and reduce redundant medical tests. For a high-volume, complex-care hospital like S.I.S Can Tho, which handles 50 to 70 stroke emergencies daily, a robust IT and storage system is essential for secure, real-time access to critical medical data, aligning with Vietnam’s vision for a digitally driven healthcare ecosystem.

To meet these demands, Syngo Carbon is revolutionizing medical data management at the hospital. This FDA-approved Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) consolidates both DICOM and non-DICOM records under a single patient ID, seamlessly integrating diverse medical files—from ultrasound scans and X-rays to endoscopy videos and audio reports. By enabling remote access and real-time consultations, the system enhances clinical efficiency while ensuring long-term, secure storage of high-resolution medical images.

Reflecting on the hospital’s digitalization journey, Dr. Tran Chi Cuong, MD, PhD – Director of S.I.S Can Tho Hospital, highlights the transformative power of Syngo Carbon: “What I am most satisfied with is that the patient monitoring process is not interrupted. If a patient had an MRI a few years ago, that data is still available for the doctor. Comparing pre-treatment and post-treatment images, as well as monitoring the long-term changes in the patient's condition, is very easy, and I am very pleased with this system.”

Looking ahead, S.I.S Can Tho Hospital plans to expand storage capacity and further integrate medical equipment into its centralized management system. The hospital is also preparing to launch a remote patient monitoring system, including an electrocardiogram platform, enabling real-time, at-home patient monitoring.
