Siemens Healthineers partners with SIS Can Tho to provide innovative technology for stroke treatment to people in Mekong Delta

Can Tho, Vietnam|2020-09-25
  • Launch of MAGNETOM Lumina MRI system, first in South East Asia and Artis icono angiography system, first in Vietnam.
  • MAGNETOM Lumina 3T MRI system with BioMatrix technology and 70 cm bore automatically adjusts scan parameters to adapt to challenging patient anatomies
  • ARTIS icono is developed to help physicians in stroke centers deal with the challenge of treating more patients faster and with greater accuracy.

Today, Siemens Healthineers and SIS Hospital Can Tho jointly launched the innovative MRI and angiography systems with an aim to provide optimal stroke treatment for the people in Mekong Delta in particular and in the South in general. This is the first hospital in ASEAN to install Magnetom Lumina and the first in Vietnam to be equipped with Artis icono.

The launch event took place at SIS Can Tho hospital with the attendance of local healthcare authorities, doctors from neighboring provinces, leaders of SIS hospital and, Pedro Vilaca, Country Head of Siemens Healthineers, Vietnam.

Stroke is a common occurrence everywhere and is among the most frequent causes of death and disability worldwide. There are around 200,000 stroke cases per year in Vietnam, and most of them do not occur within easy reach of the next hospital or advanced stroke center. As a result, over 90 percent of patients reach the hospital six hours or more after the stroke occurs. With strokes, rapid diagnosis and timely care within the “golden hour” are critical for the success of the treatment. In 2019, there were around 10,000 stroke patients in the Mekong Delta region.

“We highly appreciate the bold ambition of Dr. Tran Chi Cuong on his decision to install technology with new standards in his hospital, in this “non-capital” region. Mekong delta is home to more than 15 million people. The fact that there is SIS as an advanced stroke center in the region have saved the life of tens of thousands of local people. Siemens Healthineers is proud to bring to support SIS Can Tho in this vision”, said Pedro Vilaca, Country Head, Siemens Healthineers, Vietnam.

Dr Tran Chi Cuong – Director of SIS shared: “Stroke has been the high pressure for healthcare industry given the high mortal rate. SIS Can Tho’s purpose is to focus on early and quick diagnosis and treatment for stroke. Therefore, we took a bold step to invest in this advanced system to meet the requirements of in-depth stroke treatment. Our ambition is to become the leading stroke center in Asia so that Vietnamese patients don’t have to travel abroad, yet still can receive international standard treatment in SIS Can Tho at much lower cost. We would like to thank Siemens Healthineers for the valuable support since SIS’s early day of establishment and in realizing our vision to become leading high-tech stroke center in Asia”

The MAGNETOM Lumina with its innovative BioMatrix Technology significantly improves productivity while ensuring consistent quality. The system has a wide, 70-cm bore and GO technologies powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which accelerates the entire MRI workflow. The BioMatrix Tuners – a new intelligent coil technology – automatically adjust scan parameters to adapt to challenging patient anatomies, using CoilShim and SliceAdjust technologies for reproducible high-quality imaging. Patients are positioned automatically and with just one click – thanks to artificial intelligence and the integrated touchscreen user interface. To further facilitate workflow efficiency, the system features an optional dockable table. Additionally, new Turbo Suite acceleration packages can further reduce scan time on routine examinations of various parts of the body by up to 50 percent.
ARTIS icono comprises novel angiography systems to permit both multidisciplinary and specialized use in the areas of neuroradiological, cardiovascular, and abdominal interventions. An outstanding feature of this new system is its significantly improved 2D and 3D imaging, improving image quality and reducing the radiation dose required. As the C-arm can now perform new movement patterns, the areas of the cranial base and skull cap can now be represented with practically no artifacts in a 3D visualization.

ARTIS Icono delivers the consistent 3D whole-brain high imaging quality for confident stroke diagnosis, treatment and optimal patient outcomes. The compact solution for stroke provides all-in-one solution so that patients don’t have to travel from CT room to cathlab, which can save a lot of time which is very critical for optimal stroke treatment.
