LGE-MR Imaging of Arrhythmogenic Substrate, Scars and Lesion Formation

Pre-procedural assessment of arrhythmogenic substrate and scars by LGE-MRI with high spatial resolution may provide a valuable tool for better patient identification, treatment strategy planning, prediction of procedural success and interventional guidance in patients undergoing EP treatment. LGE-MRI based visualization of lesions after ablation might help to identify completeness of lesion formation and potential reasons for ablation failure. In interventional MRI / fluoroscopy suites, MR images could be used to assess incremental progress during the procedure. LGE-MRI is thus promising for a more individualized treatment, especially when it comes to complex device implantation (CRT or ICD) and ablation (AF or VT) procedures.
