St Joseph’s Hospital has introduced a transformational approach to diagnostics, with significant investment into the refurbishment of facilities and improved patient pathways. The installation of the MAGNETOM Sola 1.5T MRI scanner from Siemens Healthineers supports the hospital as it works towards improving patient outcomes and experiences.

The independent hospital in Newport, Wales, was founded in 1946 and continues its work today to ensure best possible care for patients. According to St Joseph’s Hospital, recent investment in the Centre of Advanced Diagnostics has made the facility one of the most advanced independent hospitals in South Wales, with 160 leading consultants supported by a dedicated nursing and healthcare professional team.

With the addition of the MAGNETOM Sola MRI, St Joseph’s Hospital is able to implement a new model for diagnostics – aiming to ensure patients receive an imaging appointment within 48 hours of referral and full results and diagnosis within a week. The MAGNETOM Sola, from Siemens Healthineers, combines 1.5T field strength with BioMatrix Technology – enabling automatic adjustment to patient biovariability. The system will provide consistent and reliable imaging facilities, providing high-quality images and rapid scan times for greater diagnostic confidence, whilst ensuring timely diagnosis in-line with new patient pathways.

“I am so excited that St Joseph’s Hospital will be able to offer an outstanding patient experience with the best image quality in the shortest scan time,” comments Jane Carpanini, Director of Advanced Diagnostics at St Joseph’s Hospital. “The MAGNETOM Sola from MRI market leader Siemens Healthineers, is an important addition to our new imaging suite and we’re thrilled to secure it as part of our multi-million-pound investment this year.”

“The reliability and efficiency of the MAGNETOM Sola is key to maintaining quick and precise diagnosis pathways at St Joseph’s Hospital,” states Alistair Piggot, MR Business Manager at Siemens Healthineers GB&I. “We are pleased to see the system working as part of a new proactive approach to diagnostics and hope this translates into improved outcomes for patients.”

The MAGNETOM Sola works to improve patient experiences, giving a more spacious feel during scanning procedures. Additional functions allow shorter scan time for patients with breathing difficulties or claustrophobia, and the newly refurbished scanning suite offers mood lighting, music and a feature panel to create a calming environment.

“Our diagnostic facilities will be some of the most advanced available in Wales and the South West, offering a preventative and proactive approach to healthcare, and our refurbished facilities and bespoke, personal service will provide our patients with a safe environment for recuperation,” comments Stuart Hammond, Chief Executive of St Joseph’s Hospital.
