Siemens Healthineers has donated funds to The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity to build three rooms of its Big LEGO Brick Hospital, including one PET and two CT scanning suites.

As the charity looks forward to opening a brand new cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool, it is building an incredible replica, made from 500,000 LEGO bricks.

Once complete, it will measure almost three metres high and include treatment machines, imaging equipment, hospital beds, medical equipment, staff, patients and everything else you’d expect to find in a hospital. For every pound donated, the charity will add another brick.

The money raised will support the innovative new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool’s first cancer hospital which is set to open this May.

The hospital will mirror its LEGO counterpart - comprising of 11 floors and over 100 single en-suite patient rooms, bespoke facilities and highly advanced medical equipment. In order to ensure a harmonised approach, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre selected equipment from Siemens Healthineers in all but one area of the hospital. Systems include; the MAGNETOM Sola MRI scanner, SOMATOM Definition Edge CT scanner for diagnostics, SOMATOM Confidence CT scanner for radiotherapy planning, the Artis zee C-Arm and the Biograph Vision 600 PET/CT.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist cancer services from 18 sites across Merseyside and Cheshire. By building the new hospital and investing in their current services, they plan to transform cancer care across the area

The new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre will give local people with cancer access to the most advanced care and treatment, take pioneering therapies from bench to bedside faster, give the best possible surroundings, built with the needs of patients at the forefront.

Danielle Carney, Corporate Partnerships Manager for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity said, “We can’t thank Siemens Healthineers enough, for getting behind this initiative and choosing to donate towards the project. The scanning rooms were the perfect part of the hospital for Siemens Healthineers to fund and we are delighted to have them involved.”
