- Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has crucial roles in both innate and adaptive immunity.
- IL-6 rises within hours of substantial injury or infection, and may be used as an early indicator of an acute inflammatory event.
- High IL-6 levels may also reflect a chronic or severe inflammatory state.
- IL-6 may aid in the evaluation for, monitoring, and prognosis for a variety of acute and chronic diseases associated with inflammation, such as infection, sepsis, autoimmune disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.
