An Applications Specialist role at Siemens Healthineers involves providing technical support and clinical education to both current and potential customers. Our Applications Specialists have experience in clinical settings, knowledge of clinical pathways and the patient journey, and use this to train others - helping them get the most out of Siemens Healthineers technology.
“No two days are ever the same,” says Helen Smith, CT Applications Specialist for GB&I. “I could be either on-site for a day performing refresher training, or out for a week training staff on a recently installed PET or SPECT system. Some days I will be working from home supporting customers remotely or participating in training to bring myself up to date with the latest system and software developments.”
Siemens Healthineers Applications Specialists receive three months initial training followed by ongoing training to ensure our specialists are highly skilled in their modalities.
“I get to train on the latest systems and share my knowledge and enthusiasm. I visit customer sites all over the UK and Ireland,” states Helen, having previously worked in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. “I am the sort of person that needs to know why, and ‘it just does’ was never a good enough answer for me – I wanted to expand my knowledge on the different systems and fully understand the capabilities of the technology I was working with.”
Training is an integral part of an Applications Specialist role, allowing Clinical Specialists to continue to expand their knowledge whilst providing customer training sessions that help maximise usage of equipment for a range of customers.
“I liked learning about new techniques that helped scan patients faster or with a better image quality. My role as an Applications Specialist allows me to be involved in things like creating and implementing training plans for customers whilst keeping my own knowledge up to date,” says Niamh Cleary, MR Applications Specialist for Siemens Healthineers GB&I.
“I would encourage anyone who likes to teach other people and enjoys setting up protocols and troubleshooting to become an Applications Specialist,” says Niamh.
