Leading medical technology company Siemens Healthineers today announced the appointment of Ghada Trotabas as Managing Director Great Britain & Ireland, effective May 1 2022. This follows the decision by Peter Harrison, who held the role for the last decade, to retire from his position at the end of May 2022.

Ghada Trotabas has more than 20 years of experience in the medical technology industry, in imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and therapy. At Siemens Healthineers, she led the global Radiation Oncology and Refurbished Systems businesses and held senior positions in Laboratory Diagnostics and Molecular Imaging. For the past five years Ghada has served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Commercial Excellence with global responsibility to build advanced commercial capabilities and drive digital marketing and sales transformation. She has held senior roles in both Europe and in the United States.

Ghada is passionate about transforming healthcare to make it more precise, more local, more digital and more compassionate. Her extensive industry experience and familiarity with the challenges facing providers will help her to support the vision of the NHS as it moves to a new service model in which patients get more options, better support, and integrated care at the right time and in the right setting.

“The pandemic has made it even more apparent that radical changes are needed in the provision of diagnostic services. This creates unique opportunities to develop new models of service delivery backed by action on workforce and technology,” states Ghada Trotabas. “At Siemens Healthineers, we are working in close partnership with the NHS and all providers to enable these changes, and I truly believe that technology and innovation play a key role in making this happen.”

Following a decade of leadership by Peter Harrison, who has worked for Siemens for 26 years, his retirement marks the end of an era for the company. Peter has led the team in Great Britain and Ireland through the rebranding of Siemens Healthcare in 2016, the certification of the company as a ‘Great Place to Work’, and a global pandemic in more recent years. During his tenure, the business has remained the number one supplier of medical imaging modalities by way of market share, achieving growth also supported by the evolution of the Managed Equipment Service proposition.

Prior to joining Siemens Healthineers, Peter held general management, sales and technical management positions within the business services and IT sectors. He is also twice former chair of the AXREM trade body (the Association of Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy and Care), a Trustee of Orthopaedic Research UK, and former Trustee of the British Institute of Radiology. On his retirement, Peter stated: “This was not a decision I took lightly as I truly love my job and will miss the pleasure of working with such passionate and committed colleagues.”

“I am told there is more to life than work and reminded that in retirement ‘it’s always too early, until it’s too late,” states Peter Harrison. “I am very proud of what we have delivered over the years, recently exemplified by the collective team’s steadfast response to the pandemic. I have remarked on the pace of change, innovation and flexibility we have witnessed within the NHS and it has been a privilege to support this. In turn, I am very grateful for the support and loyalty of our customers, as well as the support of colleagues within Siemens and beyond.”
