Flu virus

Integrating testing for life-threatening respiratory viruses: Why performance matters

During the COVID-19 pandemic, circulation of respiratory viruses changed dramatically, and the recent flu seasons showed atypical patterns compared to pre-pandemic times. It is expected that upcoming seasons will return to normal with the co-circulation of SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and respiratory syncytial viruses.

Accurate testing for respiratory viruses is critical for managing hospitalized patients. Moreover, the surveillance of these viruses is key for global public health.

This SelectScience webinar will discuss the important characteristics of laboratory tests for the detection of viruses for patient management.

All webinar participants can request a certificate of attendance, including a learning outcomes summary, for continuing education purposes.

Dr. Emeline Goretti

Dr. Emeline Goretti

Dr. Goretti is a molecular biologist with strong expertise in translational research applied to human health. She received her PhD from the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France where she characterized the role of circulating microRNA as a biomarker of cardiovascular diseases.

She started as an R&D scientist at Fast Track Diagnostics, a Siemens Healthineers company, and moved to the clinical affairs department. She is currently leading a team of clinical affairs professionals and has managed several clinical studies of RT-PCR assays, detecting respiratory viruses and SARS-CoV-2 in particular.

Dr. Marta Podgórska

A biotechnologist by training, Dr. Podgórska has more than 8 years of academic experience with inflammatory responses in skin and cervical cancers infected with human papillomavirus infection, as well as 4 years of industry experience in the development of quantitative and qualitative real-time PCR assays.

She received her PhD from the Saarland University, Homburg, Germany.

She is currently leading a team of scientists and technicians at Fast Track Diagnostics, a Siemens Healthineers company. Her team recently developed a new multiplex RT PCR assay for the detection of respiratory viruses.
