Laura Jansen: Team Leader, Consultant, Productivity Superhero

2018-03-13

Siemens Healthineers: How would your children describe what you do?
Laura: They’d probably say something like: “Mummy makes people work better,” which is a much neater description than I could ever give! Basically, I’m responsible for improving productivity across Northeast Asia and the Asia Pacific region. My team and I provide consultancy services to improve and boost the service business. We monitor KPIs, benchmark the individual countries, and examine processes in depth. The idea is to develop measures that will significantly improve business performance.

Siemens Healthineers: You cover a big region. What’s it like working with so many different countries?
Laura: Fascinating. We work with 14 countries that are worlds apart in terms of organizational size, culture, geography, customer expectations, and maturity of service operations. One day I might be working on service technician availability in a huge city like Tokyo, and the next I might be looking at spare parts delivery in a scarcely populated region of rural Indonesia.

Siemens Healthineers: What makes you smile at work?
Laura: You know those books you used to have as a kid, where you connected the dots and a picture would “magically” appear? That’s what I love about my job – connecting the dots, bringing topics and people together to make a brand-new picture. When we meet with people from our target countries to discuss their challenges, we invariably come up with great ideas and best practices that really drive their productivity.

Siemens Healthineers: Any advice for people aspiring to be a productivity superhero like you?
Laura: It’s a good idea to have some experience of project management, data analytics and consultancy, and to understand how a service organization works. Obviously, you should also be enthusiastic about enhancing processes and managing change. I get a real buzz whenever I see the positive impact of our work and the improvements that it has introduced in the various countries. If that kind of thing makes you want to leap out of bed in the morning, we’d be delighted if you joined us!
